Carrie Marie Underwood (Muskogee, Oklahoma, 10 de marzo de 1983) es una cantante estadounidense de música country pop. Saltó a la fama al ganar la 4ª temporada del popular concurso de talentos estadounidense American Idol. Sus discos han sido clasificados multiplatino, fue galardonada con de 5 premios Grammy , fue introducida en 2009 al Grand Ole Opry, y fue nombrada dos veces por la ACM (Academy of Country Music Awards) Artista del Año.
Su álbum debut Some Hearts ha sido certificado 7 veces platino y es el mejor álbum debut country de la historia según Nielsen SoundScan; es el álbum debut femenino que más ventas registra en comparación con otras intérpretes femeninas de música Country de la historia. El álbum tuvo tres números uno en el Billboard Country Charts en los Estados Unidos y Canadá: "Jesus Take The Wheel", "Wasted" y su más grande éxito hasta ahora "Before He Cheats", y sus éxitos #2 "Dont Forget to Remember me" que alcanzó el número 1 en Radio & Records country chart.
Su segundo álbum Carnival Ride, fue lanzado a la venta el 23 de octubre de 2007 y ha vendido hasta la fecha 3.5 millones de copias, y obtuvo cuatro números unos en el Billboard Hot Country Songs, "So Small", "All-American Girl", "Last Name", y Just A Dream" y el éxito #2 " I Told You So" que alcanzó el número 1 en el Radio & Records country Chart.
Su más reciente álbum se llama 'Play On' y salió a la venta el 3 de noviembre de 2009 y el primer sencillo fue Cowboy Casanova, que alcanzó el puesto # 1 en Billboard Hot Country Songs. El segundo, foi "Temporary Home", que también alcanzó el puesto #1 en el Hot Country Songs. "Undo it", el tercera single, tambiém alcanzó #1.
Underwood cantó The Star-Spangled Banner en el Super Bowl XLIV en Miami, Florida, el 7 de febrero del 2010.

Creció en un pueblo granjero de Checotah, Oklahoma, hija de Stephen y Carole Underwood, y se graduó en 2001 de la Checotah High School. Underwood concurrió a la universidad de Northeastern State, donde se graduó en comunicaciones. Las influencias musicales de Underwood van desde el pop a la música country; comentó en las audiciones para American Idol que su cantante favorita es Martina McBride.

En el Verano del 2004 Carrie Underwood audiciono para American Idol en St. Louis. Durante el Top 11 Carrie interpretó la canción Alone de la banda Heart, el juez Simon Cowell, dijo que no solo presentía que Carrie ganaría sino que vendería más álbumes que cualquier otro American Idol. Carrie es una de las seis personas que nunca estuvieron en los últimos lugares junto a Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks,David Cook, y el exitoso David Archuleta. Durante una de las semanas de competencia los productores dijeron que Carrie lideraba las llamadas del público lo que la hizo la favorita a ganar la competencia. El 25 de mayo de 2005 Ryan Seacrest declaró a Carrie Underwood la ganadora de la cuarta Temporada de American Idol.

El disco fue lanzado el día 15 de noviembre de 2005, y debutó en el puesto #2 del Billboard 200 en EE.UU., detrás de “Confessions On A Dance Floor” de Madonna, vendiendo más de 315,000 unidades en su primera semana. Hasta la fecha, el disco vendió más de 7,600,000 unidades sólo en Estados Unidos, siendo certificado Séptimo Platino por la RIAA. Además, vendió más de 500,000 unidades en Canadá, siendo certificado Triple Platino en ese país.
El disco cuenta con 6 singles:
El primero fue “Inside Your Heaven”, que fue el tema de su promoción como la nueva ganadora del programa “American Idol”, lanzado el día 11 de junio de 2005. Debutó en el puesto #1 del HOT 100 y el POP 100 del Billboard. Ha vendido más de 796,000 copias, y fue certificado Oro por la RIAA.
El segundo fue “Jesus, Take The Wheel”. Este tema fue lanzado el día 3 de octubre de 2005, y fue el primer single de Carrie Underwood en alcanzar el puesto #1 de las Hot Country Songs del Billboard, conservándolo por 6 semanas. Ha vendido más de 1,180,000 unidades en Estados Unidos, y fue certificado Platino por la RIAA. Fue el primer single de esta cantante en tener videoclip.
El tercero fue “Some Hearts”. Este tema fue lanzado el día 29 de octubre en las radios pop y de adultos, casi al mismo tiempo en el que “Jesús Take The Wheel” fue lanzado a las radios de música country.
El cuarto fue “Don’t Forget To Remember Me”. Este tema fue lanzado el día 13 de marzo de 2006. Alcanzó el puesto #2 de las Hot Country Songs del Billboard, y fue el segundo single de esta cantante en tener videoclip.
El quinto fue “Before He Cheats”. Esta canción fue realizada el día 19 de agosto de 2006. Antes de ser realizado oficialmente, el tema se posicionó durante 20 semanas en los charts de música country. Cuando se realizó oficialmente, llegó al puesto #1 de las Hot Country Songs, manteniendo ese lugar por 5 semanas. Ha vendido más de 2,570,000 unidades en Estados Unidos, siendo certificado Doble Platino por la RIAA. Es el segundo single de un ganador de “American Idol” más vendido (detrás de “No Air” de Jordin Sparks junto a Chris Brown), y el single de música country más vendido de la historia.
El sexto single fue “Wasted”. Este tema fue realizado el día 6 de febrero de 2007. Alcanzó el puesto #1 de las Hot Country Songs, conservando ese lugar por 2 semanas. Ha vendido más de 600,000 unidades, siendo certificado Oro por la RIAA.

El segundo disco de Carrie Underwood fue lanzado el día 23 de octubre de 2007 en Estados Unidos. Debutó en el puesto #1 del Billboard 200, por haber vendido más de 527,000 unidades en su primera semana, consiguiendo un Oro instantáneo. Hasta la fecha, ha vendido más de 2,580,000 en Estados Unidos, siendo certificado Doble Platino por la RIAA.
El disco cuenta con 4 singles, de los cuales todos tienen videoclip:

El segundo fue “All-American Girl”. Fue lanzado el día 17 de diciembre de 2007, y alcanzó el puesto #1 de las Hot Country Songs del Billboard, permaneciendo en él por 2 semanas. Ha vendido más de 844,000 copias en Estados Unidos, pero a pesar de eso aún no ha sido certificado por la RIAA.
El tercero fue “Last Name”. Fue lanzado el día 7 de abril de 2008, y alcanzó el puesto #1 de las Hot Country Songs del Billboard, siendo esta la única canción de Carrie Underwood en sólo conservar esa posición por una semana. Ha vendido más de 581,000 copias en Estados Unidos, pero a pesar de eso aún no ha sido certificado por la RIAA. Gracias a esta canción, Carrie obtuvo dos nominaciones para dos premios: en la categoría "Mejor Canción Country" en los "People's Choice Awards", y en la categoría "Mejor Performance Femenina Country" en los "Grammy Awards".
El cuarto fue “Just A Dream”. Fue lanzado el día 21 de julio de 2008, y alcanzó el puesto #1 de las Hot Country Songs, conservando ese lugar por 2 semanas. Ha vendido aproximadamente 516,000 copias en Estados Unidos, pero a pesar de eso aún no ha sido certificado por la RIAA. Es el actual single del disco. En su co-conducción junto al cantante Brad Paisley de los CMA Awards del año 2008, Carrie interpretó este tema, siendo introducida por la señora Leslie Ponder, quien es una viuda cuyo marido falleció a causa de la guerra actual en Afganistán.

Es su tercer disco de estudio y fue lanzado el 3 de noviembre en Estados Unidos, por el sello discográfico Arista Nashville. El álbum tiene trece canciones, pero en su versión: iTunes Bonus Track, para Estados Unidos y Canada cuenta con el bonus track "O Holy Night". Los primeros singles fueron "Cowboy Casanova" y "Temporary Home", y alcanzó el puesto # 1 en Billboard Hot Country Songs. "Undo It", el tercer single, também alcanzó el puesto #1 en Billboard Hot Country Songs.
El 10 de julio de 2010, Carrie se casó con el jugador de hockey canadiense Mike Fisher de los Ottawa Senators.
