Harry Potter y las Reliquias de la Muerte (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) es la adaptación cinematográfica de la novela homónima que cierra la saga escrita por J. K. Rowling. La versión cinematográfica será dividida en dos partes estrenándose Las Reliquias de la Muerte: parte 1 el 19 de noviembre de 2010 y la segunda parte el 15 de julio de 2011.[1]​

El director de la cinta será nuevamente David Yates, quien ha desempeñado la misma tarea desde la producción de Harry Potter y la Orden del Fénix. Ambas partes serán estrenadas por Warner Bros. Pictures en 3D, así como en 2D, en la fecha de sus respectivos estrenos. Harry Potter y las Reliquias de la Muerte será la primera película de la saga en ser proyectada en 3D en su totalidad.[2]​

Sinopsis

Una tarea casi imposible cae sobre los hombros de Harry: deberá encontrar y destruir los horrocruxes restantes para dar fin al reinado de Lord Voldemort. En el episodio final de la saga, el hechicero de 17 años parte junto con sus amigos Hermione Granger y Ron Weasley en un peligroso viaje por Gran Bretaña para encontrar los objetos que contienen los fragmentos del alma del Señor Tenebroso, los cuales garantizan su longevidad. Pero el camino no será fácil pues el lado oscuro adquiere más poder con cada minuto que pasa y las lealtades serán puestas a prueba. Harry deberá usar todos los conocimientos que gracias a Dumbledore ha adquirido sobre su enemigo para poder encontrar la forma de sobrevivir a esta última aventura.

El guión de la película comenzó a barajarse a fines de 2007, año en que se publicó la novela. Con la consecuente decisión de dividir la película en dos partes, el guionista Steve Kloves comenzó a trabajar de lleno en el proyecto. Hacia mediados del año, el guionista finalizó la primera parte de su trabajo y comenzó a escribir la segunda mencionando las dificultades que significarían los recortes y omisiones producidos en las adaptaciones previas.[3]​

A principios de 2008 Daily Mail difundió rumores sobre el nombramiento de Steven Spielberg como posible director del film,[4]​[5]​ aun cuando ya había sido candidato para la primera película y no había aceptado. El 12 de marzo se confirmó que David Yates seguiría desempeñando el rol de realizador en la saga, convirtiéndose en el director que ha estado a cargo de la mayor cantidad de adaptaciones.[6]​

En 2007 se había confirmado la continuidad de los actores principales de la saga: Daniel Radcliffe,[7]​[8]​ Emma Watson[9]​ y Rupert Grint.[10]​ Posteriormente se han ido confirmando los regresos de Helena Bonham Carter, Brendan Gleeson, Timothy Spall, David Thewlis, Helen McCrory, Robbie Coltrane, Jason Isaacs y Julie Walters confirmaron que volverán a encarnar los personajes Bellatrix Lestrange, Ojoloco Moody, Peter Pettigrew, Remus Lupin, Narcissa Malfoy, Rubeus Hagrid, Lucius Malfoy y Molly Weasley, respectivamente.[11]​[12]​[13]​.[14]​[15]​[16]​[17]​ En una entrevista de radio Evanna Lynch declaró que empezaría a filmar escenas de la película en mayo del 2009.[18]​

El rodaje comenzó el 19 de febrero de 2009,[19]​ cuando el actor Daniel Radcliffe acabó sus obligaciones con la obra de teatro Equus y se extenderá a lo largo de catorce meses.[20]​[21]​ No obstante, el calendario de filmaciones ha tenido que ser rediseñado a causa de los estudios de Emma Watson, quien ha decidido continuar con su educación ahora en el nivel universitario.[22]​

Hasta la fecha sólo se han confirmado en los apartados técnicos la participación del editor Mark Day —habitual colaborador de David Yates— y el diseñador de producción Stuart Craig (El paciente inglés; El jardín secreto) quien ha realizado idéntico trabajo en todos los films de la saga. John Williams, compositor responsable de la banda sonora de las tres primeras películas expresó su deseo de retomar su puesto, aunque no hay confirmación todavía.[23]​

El pasado 19 de marzo, se incendió el castillo donde se ruedan las escenas de Hogwarts, lo que retrasó la grabación de la cinta, pero los productores aseguran que no habrá ningún retraso en el estreno de la película, se desconocen los motivos del accidente, aunque se cree que es debido a que a los especialistas se les fue la mano con los efectos pirotécnicos. Afortunadamente, las aproximadamente 100 personas que se encontraban en el castillo cuando ocurrió el accidente, salieron todas ilesas sin ningún tipo de daño grave.[24]​

División del film

En enero de 2008 comenzó a circular el rumor sobre la posible división del film en dos partes. Finalmente, el 12 de marzo se confirmó la decisión.[25]​ La misma será dividida en dos películas —tituladas simplemente Harry Potter y las Reliquias de la Muerte: parte I y Harry Potter y las Reliquias de la Muerte: parte II— que serán estrenadas el 19 de noviembre de 2010 y el 15 de julio de 2011 respectivamente.[26]​

Según las declaraciones del productor, David Heyman, las razones de esta división no responden a objetivos comerciales sino a cuestiones de complejidad argumental. «La pregunta será, ¿dónde cortarla? ¿Y cómo hacer que sean una y a la vez dos historias diferentes y separadas? ¿Lo cortas en un momento de suspense o en uno de resolución? Son desafíos muy interesantes. Pero cada libro ha presentado sus desafíos»:.[27]​ Días después, el presidente de Warner Bros, Jeff Robinov, reafirmó las declaraciones del productor[28]​

Reconocemos que Harry Potter y las Reliquias de la Muerte está lleno de puntos vitales que completan los arcos de la historia de todos los personajes. Dicho esto, sentimos que la mejor manera para hacer el libro, y para sus muchos fans, lo justo es expandir la adaptación a la gran pantalla de Harry Potter y las Reliquias de la Muerte y lanzar la película en dos partes.
