Anexo:Las 100 mejores películas británicas del siglo XX

La lista de las 100 mejores películas británicas del siglo XX fue creada a principios de 1999 por el Instituto de Cine Británico (BFI), luego de entrevistar a 1,000 personas del mundo de la pantalla grande y la pantalla chica en Reino Unido: directores, productores, escritores, académicos, técnicos, ejecutivos, distribuidores, exhibidores, actores y críticos. La lista fue publicada en el sitio web del BFI con descripciones de cada película, e incluye películas no británicas.
A los votantes se les pidió que escogieran hasta 100 películas del siglo XX que fueran 'culturalmente británicas' y con un impacto en el arte y la cultura. Se juntaron 25,700 votos, repartido entre un total de 820 películas. Según el BFI, la lista pretende motivar la discusión sobre los mejores filmes, en vez de darle un punto final.

La década de la cual se seleccionaron más filmes (26) fue la de los 60s. Todos los directores de la lista son hombres, siendo David Lean el director más recurrente, con 7 películas; seguido de Michael Powell con 5 —4 de las cuales fueron colaboraciones con Emeric Pressburger—, y Powell y Pressburger y John Schlesinger con 4 cada uno. Siete de las películas fueron producidas por Estudios Ealing durante los años 1949-1955. Por otro lado, Alec Guinness es el actor con más presencia en la lista, con 9 películas como actor principal y 3 como secundario; mientras que la actriz que comparte dicho mérito es Julie Christie, con 6 películas. Michael Caine es el actor con más presencia que aún está vivo, apareciendo en 7 de las películas.
