James L. Avery (n. 27 de noviembre de 1948) es un actor norteamericano de TV, internacionalmente conocido por su personaje del patriarca y abogado (más tarde juez) Philip Banks en el programa de televisión The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, en el cual los Smith lo llaman cariñosamente "tío Phil". Este personaje se clasificó número treinta y cuatro en la clasificación de TV Guides "Los 50 mejores papás de televisión de todos los tiempos". También dio la voz de Shredder en la versión original de la serie Tortugas Ninja.
Primeros años [editar]
Avery se unió a la Marina de los Estados Unidos poco después de graduarse de la escuela secundaria y sirvió en la guerra de Vietnam de 1968 a 1969. Después de dejar la Marina, Avery se mudó a San Diego y comenzó a escribir guiones de televisión y poesía para la PBS. Ganó un premio Emmy por su producción durante su mandato en PBS y se le otorgó una beca para la Universidad de California, San Diego. Avery obtuvo el bachillerato en la Licenciatura de Artes en Teatro y Literatura en la universidad y se graduó en 1976. Además de su fama en sitcom, lo hizo actuando de voz para muchas series de animación, principalmente de 1987 adolescentes mutantes Tortugas Ninja serie (como la voz de el villano Shredder, lo acreditan como James Avery) y James Rhodes en el decenio de 1990 Iron Man, la serie. Él ha sido el principal receptor de Going Places, un popular viaje y la aventura de la serie de PBS. Asimismo, apareció como estrella invitada en la comedia That 70´s Show. En 2000, fue invitado estrella en el episodio "Cielos poco amistosos" de CSI como Preston, un testigo ciego de un asesinato en un vuelo, asiste a la CSI atestiguando lo que él escuchó a bordo. Vida Personal [editar]
Barbara la esposa de Avery, con quien se casó en 1988, es la decano de estudiantes del Occidental College de California. James Avery tiene un hijastro y dos hijos adoptivos. Frecuentemente, es confundido con otros colegas actores como Reginald VelJohnson y viceversa, una broma que surgió en episodios de la serie Cosas de casa, así como en El Príncipe de Bel-Air.
