La sexta entrega de los MTV Europe Music Awards se celebró en Dublín en el Point Depot con Ronan Keating regresando como anfitrión. La estrella de la noche fue Britney Spears que tuvo recoger cuatro premios.

Entre los presentadores estuvieron la modelo y actriz Carmen Electra, Christina Aguilera, Mary J. Blige, Fun Lovin 'Criminals, Spice Girls, Geri Halliwell y la actriz Denise Richards.

El premio Free Your Mind fue presentado por Mick Jagger y dado a Bono de U2 por su trabajo a la paz mundial.
