Steve Wilcox

Steve Wilcox is an American film and television actor, born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, raised in Caracas and Miami, Florida. He is an alumnus of UCLA’s department of Theatre, Film, and Television.

Wilcox has built a noteworthy career with over 60 credits, including roles in films such as "American Me" (1992), "The Dead One" (2007), "The Liberator" (2013), and TV series like "Sons of Anarchy" (2011-2012), "Swamp Thing" (2019), and "S.O.Z: Soldados o Zombies" (2021).

Early life and education

Steve was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela and grew up in Caracas and Miami, Florida. The son of a Canadian father and a Venezuelan mother, Steve spent his childhood and adolescence in his hometown, where his interest in acting accidentally emerged. At the age of thirteen, unable to choose the extracurricular activities he desired, such as wrestling and fencing, he was compelled to join the drama club. There, he discovered that acting could be more than an alternative—it could become a professional career.

In his teenage years, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a bachelor's degree in film and theater at UCLA. Wilcox managed to secure an agent and a SAG (Screen Actors Guild) credential, both crucial elements for the start of his career in the 1990s.

Career

Since the early ‘90s, Wilcox had appeared in at least 45 films and at least 20 television productions. Leveraging his physique and fluency in both English and Spanish, his credits include The Liberator, American Me, The Zero Hour, Gang Related, Station 19, S.W.A.T. , The Head Of Joaquin Murrieta, and S:O:Z: Soldiers Or Zombies.

Wilcox’s voice can also be heard in Nickelodeon’s Big Nate, Dreamworks’ Shrek 2, and a handful of video games including Starfield, Fallout, Uncharted, and Call Of Duty: Ghosts.

In 2013, Wilcox and the cast of The Liberator made the shortlist for Best Foreign Film in the Academy Awards, the first time ever for a film, representing Venezuela.

In 2019, Wilcox played the role of Santiago in Nilo Cruz’ Anna In The Tropics with the Open Fist Theater Company, which got extended. However, due to a prior commitment to work on the Amazon series S.O.Z.: Soldiers Or Zombies, Wilcox had to be replaced for the rest of the extension performances.
