The King of Fighters '98 es el quinto videojuego de la serie King of Fighters, fue lanzado en 1998 para el sistema de arcade Neo-Geo MVS. En Japón fue conocido como Dream Match Never Ends y en Estados Unidos como The Slugfest.

En términos de trama, el juego parece no poseer una historia, en lugar de eso, SNK lo creó como un "dream match", con varios personajes de títulos pasados, incluso algunos que ya habían muerto (como Rugal Bernstein, Mature, Vice, Chris, Shermie y Yashiro). El canon de la serie fue retomado en el juego posterior, The King Of Fighters '99.

El juego fue originalmente creado para el sistema Neo-Geo MVS en 1998, pero fue posteriormente trasladado a la Neo Geo CD (1998), Sega Dreamcast y PlayStation (1999). La versión para Dreamcast fue titulada The King of Fighters: Dream Match 1999.
Se planea realizar una nueva versión para PlayStation 2, el cual su fecha de lanzamiento fue postergada para Junio del 2008, sera titulada como The King of Fighters '98 Ultimate Match.[1]
