Killswitch Engage (abreviado Killswitch o KsE) es una banda estadounidense de metalcore melódico[1][2][3] fundada en 1998, procedente de Westfield, Massachusetts (Estados Unidos).
Historia
Durante el año de 1998, Mike D'Antonio, el bajista fundador, exploraba las escenas metalcore de Massachusetts, en busca de gente para formar una nueva banda. Un año después, en 1999, D'Antonio consiguió su propósito al reunirse con dos antiguos guitarras de la banda local Aftershock, Adam Dutkiewicz y Joel Stroetzel. Mientras que éste último permaneció como guitarrista, Adam pasó a la percusión. Posteriormente se les uniría el vocalista Jesse Leach, de la banda Corrin. El origen del nombre del grupo fue propuesto por D'Antonio, al ver un capítulo de Los Expedientes Secretos X, titulado "Kill Switch".
En 2000 lanzan su primer álbum, de título homónimo a la banda. Rápidamente se posicionó con éxito, hecho que le valió para firmar con su nueva y actual discográfica, la holandesa Roadrunner Records, cuna de otras grandes bandas de la escena metal como Slipknot, Trivium o Cradle of Filth, entre otros.
En 2002 se une el guitarrista Pete Cortese, quien abandonaría al poco tiempo. En ese mismo año salió a la venta su segundo trabajo, Alive or Just Breathing que superó aún más el éxito del predecesor. No obstante, el vocalista Jesse Leach abandonó el grupo poco después por problemas a la hora de compaginar las numerosas giras de la banda con su vida personal, pues se acababa de casar con su novia y coincidían poco tiempo. Leach sería reemplazado por el actual y también vocalista de Blood Has Been Shed, Howard Jones.
En 2003 sale a la luz el single When Darkness Falls, canción incluida en la banda sonora de la película Freddy vs. Jason, con indudable éxito. Aquel año abandona el baterista Tom Gomes, quien sería reemplazado por el batería de la otra banda de Howard Jones, Justin Foley.
En 2004 aparece el tercer disco de KSE, titulado The End of Heartache, con más de 250.000 copias vendidas solo en Estados Unidos en el cual el single del mismo nombre está incluido en la banda sonora de la película Resident Evil: Apocalypse, convertido en el tema principal de la misma, hecho que le valió una nominación a la mejor actuación metal de los premios Grammy.
En 2006 se publica el cuarto álbum, As Daylight Dies con canciones como My Curse la cual aparece en el videojuego Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock como una de las pistas disponibles y en el videojuego Burnout Paradise. A su vez la canción This Fire Burns es utilizada por el luchador de la WWE CM Punk.
Luego de tantas giras giras, en el 2009 Killswitch Engage se prepara para sacar su nuevo album de estudio. Killswitch Engage revela la portada que su próximo álbum tendrá. Esta cuarta producción producida por Brendan O’Brien (Mastodon, Velvet Revolver, AC/DC), titulada Killswitch Engage, estará disponible en las tiendas el 30 de Junio. Este es además el segundo LP en su trayectoria llamado de manera homónima al conjunto estadounidense. El vocalista Howard Jones: “Cuando ninguno de nosotros podíamos ponernos de acuerdo en un nombre para el álbum, alguien sugirió que simplemente los dejáramos así como Killswitch Engage y todos accedieron… da el sentir de un comienzo nuevo y fresco.” Adam Dutkiewicz, guitarrista del grupo, trabajó al lado de O’Brien en la coproducción del CD. Algunos de los tracks revelados al instante son Light in a Darkened World, The Forgotten, Starting Over, Reckoning. Jones continúa: “Era tiempo para nosotros de levantarnos de nuestra comodidad e intentar algo un poco diferente con este disco. Denitivamente suena a nosotros, pero necesitábamos ser refrescados y llevar las cosas más a fondo.”
El 14 de abril se confirmó que el título del nuevo álbum será Killswitch Engage, nombre por el que optan por segunda vez en la carrera del grupo, que se espera saldrá el 30 de junio de 2009.[4]
