Shitposting (del inglés shit, «mierda»; y posting, «publicar») es una jerga de Internet que se refiere al acto de publicar contenido de «calidad pobre, agresiva, inútil, sarcástica y actuando como troll (mayormente con propósitos cómicos)»[1]​ en un foro de Internet o red social,[2]​[3]​[4]​[5]​ en algunos casos para desviar las discusiones o para lograr que el sitio sea inútil para sus visitantes regulares.[6]​

La comedia presente en los shitposts puede variar desde humor absurdo a humor negro o meramente sarcástico.

En política

En mayo de 2016, The Daily Dot publicó una nota indicando que el shitposting es una «provocación deliberada diseñada para el máximo impacto con el mínimo esfuerzo».[7]​

En septiembre de 2016, el grupo de derecha alternativa estadounidense Nimble America recibió atención de los medios de comunicación.[8]​[9]​[10]​ The Daily Beast describió al grupo como «dedicado al shitposting, circulando memes de Internet villanizando a Hillary Clinton».[8]​

The Independent publicó que el shitposting es una herramienta apolítica que puede tener una variedad de efectos - siendo usado por todos desde la derecha alternativa como los seguidores de Donald Trump hasta grupos de izquierda online que han apoyado a Bernie Sanders.[11]​ La revista Engineering & Technology publicó que el «[s]hitposting, ya sea de izquierda o de derecha, se está desarrollando peligrosamente en una metástasis online de los dos minutos de odio de Orwell».[12]​

En noviembre de 2016, la revista Esquire escribió que «la burla por Internet está emergiendo como una técnica política legítima: el shitposting. Quizás la elección del 2020 sea totalmente shitposting».[13]​
