Consuelo Vega

Consuelo Vega (24 September 1961, Bustiyé, Spain) is a Spanish philologist and writer.

Biography[editar]

She studied in the Asturian Miners Orphanage of Oviedo, and she finished BUP in the Lugones High School. In 1979-80 She started Spanish philology in the University of Oviedo and graduated in 1985. 1987 She started working in the public administration in Asturias[1]. Between 2003 she started a long collaboration with the government of Vicente Álvarez Areces [2]. She is married to the writer Antón García, and they have a daughter and they live in Oviedo.

Writer and translator[editar]

In 1991 she wrote Vocabulario de restaurantes and she also participated in the Sociolinguistic study for Asturias that was written in the same year under the supervision of Francisco Llera Ramo. Nowadays she is coordinating the training of new personal f the Asturias' public administration.

As a translator she published 1992 the child tale of Konrad o el nenu que vieno na lata conserves of Christine Nöstlinger and the novel La muyer manzorda of the austrian author Peter Handke.

In 1992 she was responsible for the edition Cantares valdesanos, first book of the poet Ḷḷuarca Nené Losada. She is also co-author of Del centru a la periferia (1993), a reflective narration of the historical and cultural process that Asturias has suffered.

She gained popularity when she won in 1994 th prize María Josefa Canellada with the short novel Cera frío published in 1995. In 2001 she was awarded with the Fernández Lema prize with the «Qué viaje inútil la vida».

As an author, she is interested in human relationships stressing in everyday life. Her writing style can be described as clean and realistic. As a feminist, she published in the newspaper La Nueva España several articles about the historical role of women. Later on, published in the articles under the name Una Mirada a la muyer na hestoria (1999). The book was translated to Spanish by the own author and published in 2002 with the title Una mirada a la mujer en la historia. In 2002 she published Ortografía del asturianu nos sieglos XVIII y XIX, research work defended in 1993 on her doctoral thesis at the University of Oviedo.
