Juan Romo Urroz, Ph.D., (nació 1 de febrero, 1959) es publicista español, investigador, autor, Regular Councillor, el rector y profesor de estadística a la Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) - una universidad pública en la Comunidad de Madrid, España, - y el presidente de Young European Research Universities Network (YERUN) desde 2015.

Biography[editar]

Before assuming the position of Rector at UC3M, Juan Romo was the President of the Conference of Rectors of Madrid's Public Universities (Spanish: Conferencia de Rectores de las Universidades Públicas Madrileñas) (CRUMA) from January 2018 to December 2018, Vice-President of the Council of Universities (Spanish: Consejo de Universidades) ever since 2018, and the Regular Councillor on the National Institute of Statistics's (Spanish: Instituto Nacional de Estadísticas) High Council on Statistics since November 2020. He has co-authored four books and published a multitude of articles in research journals on big data, data analysis, and time series, and he has been a leading researcher, author, organizer, advisor, and speaker in his field.[1][2]

Juan Romo obtained his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Mathematics with Honors from the Complutense University of Madrid (Spanish: Universidad Complutense de Madrid) in 1982. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mathematics from Texas A&M University in 1987, and he completed his Postdoctoral stay at The City University of New York in 1989. He was an Associate Professor at both the Complutense University of Madrid and the University Carlos III of Madrid. He would go on to become an Associate Professor in the Statistics Department for both the Complutense University of Madrid (in 1988), and the University Carlos III of Madrid (in 1996). Mr. Romo would become the Vice-President (or "Vice-Rector") of Graduate Studies and Faculty & Departments at Carlos University. Late, he would obtain the position of Professor of Statistics and Operations Research at the University Carlos III of Madrid where he remains as Professor to this day.

Current Work[editar]

His current research work focuses mainly on the analysis of complex information, such as Big Data and High-dimensional Statistics. He has furthered research in other areas such as Resampling Techniques and Time Series. He has published more than sixty research papers in international journals, including several of high impact in his discipline, such as the Journal of the American Association, Biostatistics, Biometrika, Bioinformatics, and Computational Statistics & Data Analysis.
