Pthiridae es una familia de piojos en el orden [[]].[2] Esta familia solo posee dos especies vivas en la actualidad.[3] Pthirus gorillae infests gorillas,[4] and Pthirus pubis afflicts humans, and is commonly known as the crab louse or pubic louse.[5] Las dos especies divergieron hace unos 3.3 millones de años.[6]
