I lived in Maymanah for a month, at least back in 2005. Neat place, we built a Afghan National Army Post on an old Russian post, spending a great deal of time not just there, but dealing with the locals. I'll never forget, rolling in there, and the locals giving us the evil eye, but after they figured out what we were up to, they responded very positively towards us and the Afghan soldiers. I'll also never forget a local coming up to an Afghan soldier and trying to talk to him in English. He had obviously never seen anything like that and automatically thought the Afghan soldier was a foreigner! Yea, even in Afgan terms, we were way out there.
