Hi. Thanks for your work at es:WP. However I´ve got objections about it. For example, I don´t agree with the fact you choose this tool by default. It´s noisy, looks not very usefull and make my poor PC even more slow. I understand I can deactivate it doing I don´t know what, but I know nothing about programming, I won´t touch a file I don´t know how it works and I think it´s at least irrespective force me to do it. If at least this were a gadget with a link in My Preferences I maybe understood, but not in this way. Thanks. --Ganímedes (discusión) 21:27 29 oct 2012 (UTC)[responder]

It is highly unlikely this is causing your PC to slow down page load times, as the feature is both very very small and highly optimized. Rather, I would guess larger pieces of JavaScript are causing any slowness, like Twinkle, HotCat, or the recent update to WikiMiniAtlas, all of which can take several seconds to load even on fast PCs. If you're having serious slowness issues, you can always disable JavaScript in your browser, and it will speed up the site significantly, and you will still be able to edit. The reason why we chose to deploy this as a default, rather than opt in, is for many reasons, but most importantly:
  1. The feature was tested, not just created blindly, and showed a positive impact for new users
  2. The users it is most useful for are the kind who don't go to their preferences and enable features before trying editing for the first time. They're new, and desperately need help like this to tell them what is going on.
  3. This kind of feature is a part of many modern Web applications, for good reason. It's a basic feature that should be part of MediaWiki for everyone.

Sorry, I don´t agree. Even if one million users says it was amazing it´s no reason to force users don´t know software to make any change. I´m sure this test were not made in this WP or even ask before implemented it. At least you could think it like a gadget in My Preferences. And yes, it´s making my PC slow, because after save it takes a couple seconds to appears and delete the advice. I do more than 100 edits daily. It´s paintfull, trust me. I think at least a minor deference should be ask if we want it. Just like you did whit the filter of images (first try to put it, then go back when people say "NO"). Thanks, even when my voice will be no listened or respected. Cheers. --Ganímedes (discusión) 22:10 29 oct 2012 (UTC)[responder]
If you really don't like it, just copy .postedit { display: none; } and save it in Usuaria:Ganímedes/common.css. (Just create the page with it if it doesn't exist yet). That will hide it for you, as said on the Café. Steven (WMF) (discusión) 22:13 29 oct 2012 (UTC)[responder]
Again, I don´t want to touch a file I don´t know how it works. I know my english is not perfect, but I think I sayd that before. Again, I don´t know why this should be mandatory and not something to choose. And I´m not the only one. --Ganímedes (discusión) 22:17 29 oct 2012 (UTC)[responder]
Your English is quite good. Anyway, I understand that feeling, but a preference was not added, because we want to get out of the habit of creating an opt-out for every single new feature. It leads to bloated preferences with checkboxes for too much. As I tried to say in the post (though not sure because it was translated in Spanish), I'm asking that you give it a try for a bit rather than reject it right away just because it's new. If it is really bad, personal CSS files were created to let editors modify the interface for themselves. Steven (WMF) (discusión) 22:25 29 oct 2012 (UTC)[responder]
I'm not rejecting it because is new; I´m rejecting it because it´s useless. You discourage the "bad habit" of create options, but unfortunately not everybody is programmer or like software, and several tools that should be by default are by selection. It´s not clear wich are the priorities to determinated one or the other. If this is a test, I hope it lasts little. Bye. --Ganímedes (discusión) 22:36 29 oct 2012 (UTC)[responder]
