INDECT is a proposed intelligent observation system being researched by sevaral European universities since 2009 and funded by the European Union. The project aims to automatically detect criminal threats and behaviour through the processing of large volumes of CCTV camera streams and data mining of information retrieved from the public internet (internet forums, social networks, P2P file sharing networks) using various artificial intelligence and intelligence gathering network techniques.[1]

According to the project documentation, the main end-user of INDECT solutions are police forces. Furthermore, there is no direct way of private use of INDECT solutions. It is also possible for private businesses to make website activity or CCTV feeds available to INDECT. However, on voluntary, not obligatory basis.

Resultados esperados[editar]

The main expected results of the INDECT project are:

  • Trial installation of the monitoring and surveillance system in metropolitan area
  • A computer system capable of acquisition and intelligent processing of the data
  • Devices used for mobile object tracking
  • Search engine for fast detection and semantic search of persons and documents based on watermarking technology
  • System tracking criminal activity on the Internet.
