Hello, I spent most of the morning investigating this, and fixing Wikipedia. For some reason, the height in Wikipedia was wrong. There are detailed height notes on bivouac.

A bivouac reader questioned the height of this volcano since it disagreed with the height in Wikipedia. So I checked height, location and name in various sources, then corrected the Wikipedia height from 1330m to 1656m. It appears Wikipedia had the wrong height, although they copied the correct prominence and other info from Bivouac. Below are detailed audit notes for the correction.

HEIGHT

The topographic map 104.B.07 shows 4 distinct contour lines above 5000', which according to the standard rule of interpolation, makes the height 5450 feet. BC Basemap shows a spot height of 1656 meters, which is 5433 feet, very close to 5450 feet. For some reason, Wikipedia had a height of 1330m for the same lat-long.

                                              Feet Meters

Height according to 1:50K map interpolation 5450 (1661)
-> Height according to BC Basemap (5433) 1656
Old Height in Wikipedia (before correction) 1330m

I don't see any way in wikipedia to figure out who and when the wrong height was entered.

LOCATION

The location on the 1:50K map using GMap is 56:25:24,-130:51:02, which translates into 56.4230,-130.8493. And the BC Basemap spot height shows the same coordinates.

 1:50K 56.4230,-130.8493 56:25:24,-130:51:02
 BC Basemap 56:25:24,-130:51:01

NAME

The official name in BC Geographic names as of 2012 is "The Volcano". --Nachosan Todo oídos 20:48 26 jul 2012 (UTC)[responder]
