English: Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.
The automatic telephone exchange in Arnhem was destroyed during the Second World War. After the war the PTT commisioned the built of two storeys on top of an old German bunker. A temporary manually operated telephone exchange was put up on the first floor; at the same time the construction of a new automatic exchange was started on the second floor. The latter is now finished and operational. The manually operated exchange is now redundant. SHOTS: - large empty hole in the street where the old exchange used to be; - ext. bunker with extra storeys; - int. manually operated exchange at work: ext. equipment with a.o. cables and a row of busy operators behind switchboards; int. manually operated exchange out of order: everything is motionless and abandoned: empty chairs and empty switchboards; - int. automatic exchange with close ups of equipment.

In de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd de automatische telefooncentrale in Arnhem verwoest. Na de oorlog liet de PTT op een oude Duitse bunker twee verdiepingen bijbouwen. Op de eerste verdieping werd een tijdelijke handbediende telefooncentrale ingericht; op de tweede werd tegelijkertijd begonnen aan de bouw van een nieuwe automatische centrale. De laatste is nu klaar en in gebruik genomen. De handbediende centrale is daarbij niet meer nodig. SHOTS: - groot leeg gat in de straat waar vroeger de oude centrale stond; - ext. bunker met bovenbouw; - int. handbediende centrale in bedrijf: ext. apparatuur met oa kabels en een batterij druk bewegende telefonistes achter schakelborden; - int. handbediende centrale buiten bedrijf: alles ligt roerloos en verlaten: lege stoelen en lege schakelborden; - int. automatische centrale met cu's van apparatuur. |
