La folitropina de subunidad beta es una proteína que en humanos es codificada por el gen FSHB.[1][2][3]
La familia de hormonas glicoproteínas pituitarias incluye incluye a la hormona foliculoestimulante, hormona luteinizante, gonadotropina coriónica, y la tirotropina. Todas estas glicoproteínas consisten de idénticas subunidades alfa y de una subunidad beta específica a la hormona. Este gen codifica la subunidad beta de la hormona foliculoestimulante. En conjunto con la hormona luteinizante, la hormona foliculoestimulante induce la producción de óvulos y esperma. Resultados de splicing alternativo resulta en dos variantes de la transcripción que codifican la misma proteína.[3]
