Colour Me Pop fue un programa de televisión musical británico emitido en la BBC2 entre 1968 y 1969. Se trataba de un programa derivado del magazine de arte Late Night Line-Up de la BBC2. Diseñado para celebrar la introducción del color en la televisión británica,[1] estaba dirigido por Steve Turner e incluía actuaciones de media hora de grupos de pop y rock de la época. El programa fue un precursor del más recordado programa musical de la BBC The Old Grey Whistle Test (1971-1987). A diferencia de su sucesor, la mayoría de las ediciones de Color Me Pop se han perdido debido a la política de archivos de la BBC de la época.[2]

Visuales
Actualmente, sólo las ediciones con The Small Faces, Ferdinand & IER’s Project, The Moody Blues y The Move se conservan en el archivo de la BBC, así como el episodio de The Chambers Brothers que nunca fue transmitida. Además, sobreviven tres canciones de la edición Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band (una en calidad no transmitible), además de inserciones cinematográficas de las ediciones de Trapeze/Samson y Clodagh Rodgers/Honeybus y un tráiler en blanco y negro de la edición de Salena Jones.[5][6]
Otro material del cual se conoce su existencia fuera de la BBC incluyen: tele-grabaciones en blanco y negro de las ediciones completas de Hollies, Nice, Musical de Mean Girls y The Mamas and The Papas/Ferdinand & IER’s Project. Varias inserciones de película de la edición de Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band de las presentaciones de la banda de Vivian Stanshall, e inserciones de película mudas de la edición de Orange Bicycle están recopiladas en el archivo de Kaleidoscope. También existe una película promocional de la televisión francesa en blanco y negro de la canción de The Hollies "Listen to Me" que se grabó durante la grabación de aquel Colour Me Pop. Un documental holandes de 1969 sobre Golden Earring enseña la actuación de 'It's Alright, But I Admit It Could Be Better' de su edición en CMP que no fue transmitida. 18 fotogramas de película (que en total duran menos de un segundo) de la edición de Barbara Ruskin se conserva en una partitura contemporánea, también existen capturas de pantalla fuera del monitor de las ediciones de Honeybus (8 imágenes) Sons and Lovers (2 imágenes) and the Giles Giles and Fripp, Toast and Elastic Band (1 imagen cada una) editions.

Most of the Small Faces edition was commercially released as part of the 'All Or Nothing 1965–1968' DVD in 2009, and in 2018 the entire show was issued on the 50th anniversary edition of Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake. The Moody Blues edition was released as part of their 'Timeless Flight' box set in 2013, and again on the 50th anniversary edition of In Search of the Lost Chord in 2018. The Move's edition was included on their 'Magnetic Waves of Sound' CD/DVD release in 2017. The off-air audio of The Kinks edition was included on the 'Kinks at the BBC' box set in 2012. This was followed by the pre-broadcast audio of the show as prepared by Ray Davies (featuring two additional songs, 'Lazy Old Sun' and 'Monica' that did not make the final broadcast) being featured on the 50th anniversary The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society box set in 2018.
The audio of two songs from the Love Affair edition were issued on their 3CD collection 'Time Hasn't Changed Us' in 2015. The audio of the Family edition was issued on the 'Family at the BBC' limited edition box in 2018. The audio used for the Giles Giles and Fripp edition (not an off air but prerecordings produced by Peter Giles to be played back during broadcast) was included on 'The Brondesbury Tapes' CD release in 2001.The audio of Trapeze's 3 song live set on Colour me Pop was included on the 2020 Cherry Red reissue of their debut album.
Videos identified as being taken from the programme can be seen on the YouTube website, including recordings of The Bonzo Dog Band, The Nice, The Moody Blues, The Chambers Brothers, The Move, and The Small Faces.[8]
