La ética de los negocios (a veces denominada ética corporativa) es un tipo de ética aplicada o ética profesional que analiza los principios éticos y morales o los problemas éticos que surgen en el mundo de los negocios. Comprende todos los aspectos de la conducta de los negocios y es relevante en cuanto a las conductas individuales de las personas como la de las organizaciones en su conjunto.[1]
La ética de los negocios posee dimensiones normativas y descriptivas. Como una especialidad corporativa y un área de especialización, el campo es principalmente normativo. Los estudiosos que intentan comprender y analizar el comportamiento de los negocios emplean métodos descriptivos. El rango y número de temas éticos del mundo de los negocios refleja la interacción de comportamientos enfocados a maximizar la ganancia con preocupaciones no-económicas. El interés en la ética de los negocios creció mucho durante las décadas de 1980 y 1990, tanto dentro de las corporaciones como den el ámbito académico. Por ejemplo, a principos del siglo XXI la mayoría de las grandes corporaciones promueven su compromiso con valores no-económicos bajo elementos tales como códigos de ética y compromisos de responsabilidad social. Adam Smith expresó, "People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment y diversión, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance para aumetar los precios."[2] Los gobiernos utilizan leyes y regulaciones para identificar comportamientos de negocios in what they perceive to be beneficial directions. Ethics implicitly regulates areas and details of behavior that lie beyond governmental control.[3] The emergence of large corporations with limited relationships and sensitivity to the communities in which they operate accelerated the development of formal ethics regimes.[4]
