Sobre el título

La palabra realm como rango taxonómico ha sido acuñada recientemente por el ICTV con la intención de crear una categoría por encima del reino pero distinta del dominio propio de organismos celulares. No he podido encontrar bibiografía en castellano que ofreciera una traducción por ser algo muy reciente y decidí escribir al correo del ICTV (info@ictvonline.org). Copio aquí la respuesta:

You happen to be the second person this week asking the same question. The first person wanted Portuguese translations, but I think the answer, as provided by Murilo Zerbini an ICTV Executive Committee member from Brazil is close enough:

“Kingdom can be safely translated as Reino. Realm is tricky... We decided to use this term instead of "domain" because we didn't want this category to be confused with the "domains of life". "Realm" was a good alternative. Unfortunately, there's no equivalent alternative in Portuguese. So what I've been doing is using "domínio".

In reality, domain, realm and kingdom (as well as "reino/domínio") are considered synonymous in all the dictionaries I consulted. In the end, the category name is less important than the relationship between them. So, the most important thing here is that "Realm/Domínio" is a higher category than "Kingdom/Reino".”

Dado que un miembro brasileño del ICTV ha decidido usar la palabra domínio para esta categoría en portugués al tener el mismo problema he decidido titular así el artículo hasta que aparezcan fuentes secundarias en castellano sobre el tema. Un saludo. --Leptospira (discusión) 00:49 28 may 2020 (UTC)
