Según el Buddhavaṃsa, se cree que Vessabhū es el vigésimo cuarto buda. Nació por complacencia de Anoma (Comentario, Anūpama), siendo su padre el khattiya Suppatita (Supatita) y su madre Yasavatī.^[1] ^[2] Es venerado por las tradiciones Theravada, Mahayana y Vajrayana.
