English: A wire antenna at a amateur radio station in 1922 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA, built by Leroy Moffat, Jr, 5HK. It is a type called an "inverted-L" cage aerial, 105 ft long and 93 ft high. The conductor is made of a "cage" of six wires, 12 ft. in diameter, held apart with wooden spacers. The vertical part at the far end functions as the radiator, while the horizontal part functions as a capacitive "top-load", increasing the current in the antenna. The "cage" construction increases it's capacitance to ground, and decreases the resistance. There is a counterpoise under the antenna consisting of a fan-shaped network of wires suspended a foot above the ground in the back yard. It is driven by a 1 kW rotary spark-gap transmitter. Moffat has worked stations all over the US with this equipment.
