Pristimantis (denominadas popularmente ranas de lluvia) es un género de anfibios anuros de la familia Craugastoridae, que se distribuyen en la región neotropical, desde el norte de Argentina hasta América Central, el sur de Norteamérica y las pequeñas Antillas. Siendo Colombia y Ecuador los países con mayor representación de este género. Pristimantis es considerado el género más diverso entre los vertebrados terrestres, con 560 especies actualmente reconocidas. Su biología reproductiva presenta desarrollo directo, esto es, carecen de una larva de vida libre, obligando al embrión a finalizar su ciclo al interior del huevo. En el pasado Pristimantis fue incluido dentro del aún más extenso género Eleutherodactylus y considerado parte de la familia Leptodactylidae.[1]​
