KC and the Sunshine Band es una banda estadounidense formada en 1973 en Miami, Florida. Su estilo ha incluido funk, R&B, disco, pop rock y dance. La banda fue formada por Harry Wayne Casey (KC), quien trabajaba de medio tiempo en una tienda de discos y en "TK Records" en Miami. KC originalmente llamó a la banda KC & The Sunshine Band Junkanoo, ya que utilizaba los estudios de TK y a una banda local llamada The Miami Junkanoo Band. En TK conoció a Richard Finch, quien hacía trabajos de ingeniería de grabaciones y lo integró al grupo. Este fue el comienzo de la colaboración musical Casey-Finch. También se unieron el guitarrista Jerome Smith (18 de junio de 1953 a 28 de julio de 2000) y el baterista Robert Johnson, ambos músicos de TK Records. Finch colaboró para KC & The Sunshine Band hasta 1980.
El propio Harry transformó su apellido "Casey" en : "K C", y "Sunshine Band" viene de Sunshine State (Florida). Entre sus canciones más conocidas destacan "That's the way (I like it)", "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty", "Get Down Tonight","I'm Your Boogie Man", "Keep It Comin' Love", "Please Don't Go" y "Give It Up".
Se ha presentado en Chile en cuatro ocasiones, la primera, el 27 de septiembre de 1980, en el Teatro Casino Las Vegas, la segunda, en febrero de 1981, en el XXII Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar, la tercera en el Festival Internacional de la Canción de Viña del Mar del 2010, y la ultima en el festival de Antofagasta junto al mar, el 11 de febrero de 2012, teniendo siempre un gran éxito en sus presentaciones.
