Richard Wayne Van Dyke es un reconocido y premiado actor de cine y televisión norteamericano. Nace el 13 de diciembre de 1924 en West Plains (EE. UU.). Seguramente recordado por sus estelares actuaciones en los films Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang o en el programa de televisión The Dick Van Dyke Show en los años '60 y también Diagnóstico Asesinato en los '90.

Van Dyke nació en West Plains, Missouri y creció en Danville, Illinois, hijo de Hazel Vorice (nacida McCord) y Loren Wayne "Cookie" Van Dyke, vendedor viajero de la Sunshine Biscuit Company con talento para la comedia. Concurrió a la escuela primaria en Danville a partir de 1931. En 1938 los Van Dyke, de origen holandés, se mudaron a Crawfordsville, Indiana por dos años y retornaron a Danville en 1940 donde asistió a la escuela secundaria. De niño, fue inspirado a entrar en el mundo del espectáculo al ver las películas de Laurel y Hardy.
